FYI Investigates: Kids Who Vape

In a special episode of FYI – the BAFTA award-winning weekly news show for young people from Sky News and Sky Kids – presenter Braydon investigates why so many young people are taking up vaping.

The number of children taking up vaping is on the increase with the NHS reporting that 9% of 11-15 year olds are now regular vapers. In this documentary, Braydon investigates why there’s been such a rapid increase in the popularity of e-cigarettes. Is it the brightly coloured packaging and sweet flavours that attract young people – or are there other factors at play?

Talking to teenage vapers, Braydon discovers how they’re able to get hold of the vapes, which cannot be sold legally to children. And he asks if young people should be worried about warnings from doctors that vapes could be very damaging to their health, as well as being highly addictive.

He meets a former vaper who ended up in intensive care after a bad reaction to one of the vapes he was using. And he finds out that the vaping industry itself is asking the government to introduce tighter regulations to stop vapes being sold to children. The industry insists that vapes are intended only for the use of adults to help them quitting smoking more harmful tobacco cigarettes.
