Presented by renowned literacy consultants Christine Chen and Lindsay Pickton (Primary Education Advisors), and informed by the wealth of journalistic experience within the First News team, our webinars aim to give educators the tools and understanding needed to incorporate non-fiction and news-based learning in their planning effectively, enabling them to:

  • Raise awareness of the prevalence of ‘fake news’, and how to spot it

What topics are covered?

Session 1 (Monday 6 November 2023, 4-5.15pm): Reading for pleasure: how non-fiction can make the difference. NB this session has taken place, however the recording is available on completion of the form below

Session 2 (spring term 2024): Practical ways to teach with news stories, and how this can improve comprehension and engagement. NB this session has taken place, however the recording is available on completion of the form below

Session 3 (summer term 2024): The importance of critical thinking skills and offer practical strategies for developing them, especially in the context of increasing volumes of fake news and the worrying rise of toxic influencers such as Andrew Tate.

All sessions will include time for Q&A with Christine and Lindsay.
